Deacon Floyd Walter McCubbins, aged 74, passed away on April 25, 2025, during a Knight’s of Columbus state convention in Helena, Montana. Born on September 28, 1950, in Walla Walla, Washington to Byron and Vonda McCubbins, Floyd moved with his family to Missoula, Montana in 1959 and later settled in Kalispell.
He graduated from Flathead High School in 1968 and attended Flathead Valley Community College until 1971. In the early years following high school graduation, Floyd began dating Connie Hundahl. The couple married on October 7, 1972, after he proposed on Valentine's Day of that year.
Floyd had a varied career spanning several decades. He worked for over ten years with the Forest Service and nearly twenty years with Stoltze Land and Lumber. Additionally, he co-owned the Moving Image Health and Fitness Center with his wife for almost two decades and ran his own travel agency. His entrepreneurial ventures included Grizzly Bamboo Fly Rods. As an ordained Deacon from 2012 until his passing, he served at St. Richards and most recently at Risen Christ Catholic Church.
His community involvement was extensive; he volunteered as a firefighter, coached youth baseball teams, lobbied for the timber industry and was named Forester of the Year by the Society of American Foresters. Floyd also contributed to local planning boards and organized community events such as Heritage Days and Night of Lights. A highlight of his service was assisting Pope Francis during the Papal Mass in Philadelphia in 2015.
Floyd is survived by his wife Connie McCubbins; sons Patrick (Amy) with grandchildren Cameron (Kaileigh), Skyler (Nick), Christian; Bryan (Nicole) with grandchildren Austyn (Ana), Ashya; great-grandchildren Katalaya, Rosalyn Evan Kash; sisters Kimberely Beck Deana Lechner Rahni Juelfs preceded death parents brother Charles McCubbins
