Brother Terence McLaughlin, known to many as Brother Terence, passed away on May 25, 2025, at the age of 102. Born John Patrick McLaughlin on December 14, 1922, in Duluth, Minnesota, he was drawn to the Christian Brothers early in life. He began his journey with them in 1938 through programs in Glencoe, Missouri.

His career led him to Christian Brothers High School (CBHS) in Memphis in 1949. He served in various roles across Tennessee, Illinois, Indiana, and Minnesota and even worked abroad. However, Memphis remained a significant part of his life.

In 1962, Brother Terence became president of Christian Brothers College. During his tenure, he admitted Jesse Turner Jr. as the first Black student at CBHS, making it the first integrated high school in Memphis. For this action, he is remembered as a pioneer and referred to as "the father and hero of integration" in Memphis.

Brother Terence advised ten presidents of CBU during his lifetime and touched countless lives with his work. He is survived by family members including his sister and several nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial took place on June 2 at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception with burial at Calvary Cemetery. His legacy continues to inspire those who remember him.
