Revered Carl A. Kemme, D.D. Bishop | Diocese of Witchita
Bishop Carl A. Kemme of the Diocese of Wichita recently presided over the ordination of seven transitional deacons. This ceremony, held at St. Catherine of Siena Church in Wichita, marked a significant step in the lives of Peter Bergkamp, Paul Brungardt, Kyle Demel, Isaac Hilger, Jacob McGuire, Luke Meyerhoff, and Koby Nguyen.
During the event, Bishop Kemme drew parallels between this occasion and a passage from the Acts of the Apostles that speaks about selecting "seven reputable men" filled with spirit and wisdom. He noted that these men had proven themselves capable and willing to serve Christ and His followers.
Reflecting on his conversations with the candidates prior to their ordination, Bishop Kemme remarked on their journey through years of hard work, study, prayer, and formation. He expressed pride in witnessing their growth and commitment to conforming their lives to Christ's example.
The bishop emphasized the profound nature of their commitment to celibacy and obedience to Christ for life. Drawing from his own experience as a transitional deacon ordained in 1985, he assured them that this path would be rewarding.
He further reminded them that like those first deacons chosen by apostles who were imparted with the Holy Spirit for service, they too were selected for a new life dedicated to serving God and His people.
Bishop Kemme concluded by expressing hope that they will look back on this night as a blessing and encouraged them to embrace their role as faithful servants with joy and dedication throughout their lives.
