Franciscan University of Steubenville has announced a significant expansion of Franciscan Square, which will introduce five new businesses and create numerous jobs in the local area. The announcement was made on June 5, 2025, during an event attended by university administrators, city officials, and business leaders at the Inn and Suites at Franciscan Square.
The upcoming businesses include Scooter’s Coffee, Buffalo Wild Wings Go, Jamba, Auntie Anne’s, and Cinnabon. Father Dave Pivonka, TOR, President of Franciscan University, commented on the collaboration: “I love when Franciscan University can collaborate with individuals who desire to see the Ohio Valley prosper. Bringing these new food options to Franciscan Square is part of our commitment to serve both our students and the Steubenville community.”
Construction is set to begin in July 2025 with a staggered opening planned for summer 2026. Scooter’s Coffee will be the first to open. It is known as the fifth largest coffee chain in the U.S., featuring a drive-thru service and over 850 locations nationwide.
Following Scooter’s Coffee will be Jamba, Auntie Anne’s, and Cinnabon—all operated under GoTo Foods company as a tri-branded store. These brands are recognized globally for their smoothies, pretzels, and cinnamon rolls respectively.
Buffalo Wild Wings Go will be the last to open its doors among the new additions. This eatery focuses on quick takeout and delivery services while offering flavors consistent with its full-service counterparts.
A newly constructed building of 8,700 square feet will house all five eateries along with public seating areas on its second floor. Spin Ohio Inc., led by Dan Vansteenburg—a graduate of Franciscan University—will manage these operations and plans to hire around 60 employees.
Dan Vansteenburg expressed enthusiasm about expanding in Steubenville: “After the warm welcome Jimmy John’s received in 2024 from Steubenville area residents, we are beyond excited to add new restaurants in 2026.”
This development marks continued economic growth at Franciscan Square following previous openings such as Jimmy John’s sandwich franchise in April 2024 and The Rink at Franciscan Square in November 2023.
There remain six acres available for future projects within Franciscan Square.
