A teacher at Little Flower School in Springfield has been honored with the 2025 St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Award, a recognition given by the Diocese of Springfield in Illinois to one Catholic teacher who significantly impacts their classroom and embodies Catholic values. The award was presented to Pryor, an upper-grade science and literature teacher, during a school assembly on May 7.

Pryor expressed her surprise upon receiving the award, saying, “I am totally surprised. I knew I had been nominated but just had no idea this was coming. This means a lot to me.” She emphasized the importance of faith in education: “Faith is very important. We pull faith into everything we do at the school.”

The award organizers received over 100 nominations from principals, teachers, parents, previous students, and current students throughout the diocese. The Office for Catholic Education narrowed these down to five finalists before selecting Pryor as the winner.

During her acceptance speech, Pryor reflected on her role at Little Flower School: “Sometimes, I second guess myself if this is where I need to be, then I see students in the hallways, and it just warms me and makes my heart happy.”

Several individuals praised Pryor's teaching methods and dedication. Brittany Schoenherr noted that Pryor makes learning engaging and enjoyable for students. Laura Boland highlighted Pryor’s dedication to seeing the best in her students and going the extra mile for them. Former student Kate Killian acknowledged how much she learned from Pryor both academically and personally.

Jennifer Killian, principal of Little Flower School, commended Pryor's ability to set high expectations while providing necessary support for her students' success: “Mrs. Pryor is a teacher that sets high expectations for her students and is continuously challenging them.”

The Diocese of Springfield oversees 43 Catholic schools (36 elementary schools and seven high schools). Details on submitting nominations for next year's St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Award will be announced by Catholic Times in early 2026.
