Statistics indicate that while 79% of regular Mass-goers believe in purgatory, only 57% of those who seldom attend Mass understand purgatory as a real concept.
"Purgatory" delves into the fate of the soul after death, using insights from a book by Polish Catholic Fulla Horak to make the topic accessible for average Catholics. Ignatius Press has noted that the film incorporates "evidence from science of near-death experiences and mystical revelations of St. Faustina and St. Padre Pio" to provide "solid proof for the reality of Purgatory."
The film was both written and directed in 2020 by Michal Kondrat, known for his work on "Love and Mercy: Faustina."
