Micah J. Blunt, a former professional basketball player and seasoned human resources leader, has joined Christian Brothers University (CBU) as a Senior Human Resources Generalist. Blunt started at CBU in late July 2025, bringing over two decades of experience in HR management and leadership roles across multiple industries.

“My work has always centered around serving people,” said Blunt. “Your employees are your greatest asset. Without them you have no business.”

Before coming to CBU, Blunt led the human resources department at Clover (formerly Kingsley House), a New Orleans nonprofit focused on early childhood education and adult day care for seniors. He also previously held HR positions in sectors such as non-profits, gaming, food services, church operations, healthcare, and logistics.

Blunt’s background includes notable achievements in athletics. After graduating from East Jefferson High School as the first Louisiana player named to the 1978 McDonald’s Top-Twenty High School All-American Basketball Team, he attended Tulane University on an athletic scholarship and served as captain of the men’s basketball team. He was drafted by the Los Angeles Lakers in 1982 and played professionally for ten years in Europe where he won five championships in one season—a record recognized by the European Guinness Book of World Records.

His coaching career included NCAA Division I positions with Fairleigh-Dickinson University’s men’s team and George Mason University’s women’s team. He contributed to Sacramento State University’s transition from NCAA Division II to Division I status.

After years spent moving frequently for coaching opportunities, Blunt transitioned into human resources management. His initial HR role was at a poultry processing plant with 2,700 employees before taking on larger responsibilities at other plants and later with Walmart Distribution Centers.

Blunt cited his attraction to CBU's mission and educational offerings as key reasons for joining: “When I did my research, I saw the many grants, scholarships, and opportunities CBU provides students, so they can get a quality education,” he said. “The Mission. The Values. The quality of education. Looking through the curriculum, I saw how intensive and comprehensive the programs were. Students can be successful in life and go out and serve others. I was drawn to CBU’s mission and values.”

He moved to Memphis after his wife Patricia secured an opportunity with Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare that would support her residency while their daughter lived nearby.

In addition to his professional roles, Blunt founded I.N.S.P.I.R.E RR Inc., a nonprofit based in New Orleans aimed at improving student reading skills through positive reinforcement incentives like electronics or bicycles for academic achievement.

“One year, we had a fourth grader in the program, and his mother didn’t have a TV,” recalled Blunt. “This child was in the program, reading to get a TV for his mother. What he didn’t realize was that, at the same time, his reading was improving. His comprehension skills were going up. Soon, he was reading on grade level. He worked so hard and read so much, he walked away with a TV, a motorized scooter, a basketball, and a mountain bike.”

Blunt continues to oversee this initiative remotely from Memphis while considering expansion plans for the organization locally.

Theresa Jacques, Associate VP and Human Resources Director at CBU who serves as Blunt's mentor stated: “We are thrilled to have Micah Blunt on our HR team.” She added: “He brings a wealth of HR experience to CBU, having served in HR leadership roles across several industries. Micah believes deeply in the CBU Lasallian mission and lives it daily. His quiet and calm demeanor is evident in his interactions with faculty, staff and students and he is a wonderful addition to the CBU community.”
