Reverend Joseph E. Kurtz, D.D. Bishop | Archdiocese of Louisville
On the weekend of June 7-8, parishes will hold the annual Catholic World Mission Collection. This initiative supports both the Catholic Home Missions and international Pontifical Mission Societies, including the Propagation of the Faith and the Catholic Near East Welfare Association. These organizations provide funding for over 1,000 mission dioceses across the United States and globally.
The collection aids in sustaining the Church's missionary work by providing financial assistance for pastoral and evangelizing programs in various regions such as Africa, Asia, the Pacific Islands, the Middle East, and remote areas of Latin America. Contributions support education and training for seminarians, religious novices, lay catechists, and assist religious communities engaged in education, healthcare, social services, communication needs, transportation requirements, disaster relief efforts when necessary, and children's ministry.
In a letter to parishioners coinciding with Pentecost celebrations, Archbishop Shelton J. Fabre of Louisville highlighted that "as we celebrate the Solemnity of Pentecost," it is important to remember how those gathered were "filled with the Holy Spirit" (Act 2:4). He emphasized that this collection offers an opportunity to share the Gospel's Good News through supporting Church missions reaching out to those in need.
Archbishop Fabre expressed gratitude for contributions made towards this cause: "Thank you for your generosity to the Mission Collection."
Sincerely,
Most Reverend Shelton J. Fabre
Archbishop of Louisville
