Archbishop Nelson J. Pérez | Archdiocese of Philedelphia
The Archbishop of Philadelphia, Nelson J. Pérez, has called for a period of prayerful solidarity as the College of Cardinals convenes to elect the next Pope. The conclave begins on May 7, 2025, following nine days of traditional prayers for the repose of Pope Francis.
Archbishop Pérez expressed gratitude for Pope Francis' life and ministry, recalling his visit to Philadelphia during the World Meeting of Families in 2015. "Que el papa Francisco descanse en paz por la misericordia de Dios," he said.
He encouraged the faithful to pray fervently for both the College of Cardinals and the Church during this time. "Los próximos días nos ofrecen a todos la oportunidad de rezar por el Colegio Cardenalicio y por la Iglesia en su conjunto," he stated.
Special holy hours have been scheduled across parishes in Philadelphia, with all invited to participate. More information is available at archphila.org/conclave.
A specific petition is being shared with local parishes for inclusion in Masses leading up to the papal election: "Por la segura convicción en la obra del Espíritu Santo... por la elección de un nuevo Pastor universal."
Archbishop Pérez concluded with a blessing: "Que María, Madre de Dios y Madre de la Iglesia, interceda en oración ante el Señor para que escoja un pastor conforme a su corazón."
