Sister Catherine Danielle LeTourneau and Mrs. Caroline Maher, two educators from the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, were honored by the Philadelphia Phillies as All-Star Teachers during the team's 25th annual Teacher Appreciation Night on May 2. Sister Catherine teaches honors math at Saint Charles Borromeo Parish School in Bensalem, while Mrs. Maher serves as assistant principal and middle school honors math teacher at Our Lady of Mercy Regional Catholic School in Maple Glen.
The recognition included a $1,000 donation to each of their schools. Sister Catherine was nominated by Mrs. Molly Quinn, principal of Saint Charles Borromeo Parish School, and Mrs. Maher was nominated by a student from her school.
The event coincided with Catholic Charities Appeal (CCA) Night at the Phillies game. CCA is a significant fundraiser for the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, supporting various ministries and organizations including special education and social services.
Zachary Plunkett, a fourth-grade student from Our Lady of Confidence School in Willow Grove, threw out the first pitch at the game. His school is one of three Archdiocesan schools dedicated to special education and benefits from CCA funds.
Our Lady of Mercy Regional Catholic School opened in 2012 as a joint ministry involving several parishes. The school emphasizes living the Gospel message through acts of mercy and community service.
Saint Charles Borromeo Parish School focuses on spiritual and educational excellence within a Christ-centered environment.
Our Lady of Confidence School has been educating children with special needs since 1954, aiming to develop students' full potential across various dimensions within a supportive Catholic framework.
