Joseph J. Foy, Ph.D. President | Benedictine University
Benedictine University recently honored the legacy of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. with a prayer service and an alumni panel discussion. The event commenced at St. Benedict Chapel in Lownik Hall, where BenU President Dr. Joseph Foy opened with remarks, followed by prayers from professors Jayashree Sarathy and Bernarr Newman.
The service included elements such as the history of the black national anthem "Lift Every Voice and Sing," readings from Dr. King's work, a history of spirituals, and a performance by the Benedictine Concert Choir. Julie Dockery, BenU's Chief Diversity Officer, delivered the keynote address for the service, while Carrie Ankeny, Director of Campus Ministry, concluded with a closing prayer.
Subsequent to the prayer service was an alumni keynote panel held on the 5th floor of Kindlon Hall. The panel featured Maurice Bell (Class of '87), Ephriam Fitzgerald (Classes of '91 and '10), and Marie Jenkins (Class of '00).
