Iona University marketing students recently embarked on an immersive study abroad experience in Costa Rica designed to combine classroom knowledge with real-world insights. The trip focused on ecotourism marketing and economic development, providing students with experiential learning opportunities and a chance to explore the local culture.
During their time in Costa Rica, the students visited the Starbucks Coffee Farm and interacted with key figures in the business world, including the chairman of Café Britt, the chief creative officer at the Jotabequ Grey ad agency, and the owner of Besana, an air cargo logistics company.
Reflecting on the experience, student Herolinda Dacaj ’25 shared, “Studying abroad in Costa Rica was more than just an adventure; it was a transformative journey that opened my eyes to the country’s vibrant culture. It was a trip that will forever shape my perspective on the world.”
The trip also included activities such as surfing lessons, ziplining, and exploring the Monteverde Rainforest, allowing students to immerse themselves fully in the Costa Rican way of life.
The study abroad program was led by Roberto Cruz, clinical lecturer in the LaPenta School of Business Marketing Department, and Kyle Byrne, assistant director of Student & Alumni Engagement and adjunct instructor of Communication Studies.
