Hon. Debra Ann Livingston, Chief Judge of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, has announced that Sheryl Giugliano has been appointed as a U.S. Bankruptcy Judge for the Eastern District of New York (EDNY). Giugliano, an alumna of St. John's Law, will start her judicial duties later this summer.

Giugliano is currently a partner at Ruskin Moscou Faltischek P.C., with extensive experience in bankruptcy, restructuring, and litigation. Her previous roles include positions at Diamond McCarthy LLP, Silverman Acampora LLP, and Weissman Abruzzo LLP. Beyond private practice, she has served as co-chair of the EDNY Bankruptcy Local Rules Committee and as a member of the SDNY Bankruptcy Local Rules Committee. Additionally, she chaired the EDNY Bankruptcy Chapter 11 Lawyers’ Advisory Committee and co-chaired the Bankruptcy and Creditors’ Rights Committee within the New York State Bar Association’s Federal and Commercial Litigation Section.

Laura Schwartz ’90, Director of the Center for Bankruptcy Studies at St. John's University-New York commented on Giugliano's appointment: “I’m thrilled that another St. John’s Law graduate has been selected to join the federal bankruptcy bench. On a personal level, I’m overwhelmed with joy and pride for Sheryl." Schwartz recounted meeting Giugliano almost 14 years ago when she was a junior bankruptcy associate eager to assist students through mock interviews at St. John's Law Career Development Office (CDO). She noted Giugliano's ongoing commitment to mentoring students and sharing her expertise as an adjunct professor and advisory board member at the Bankruptcy Center.

The community is encouraged to congratulate Judge Giugliano on her new role.
