Archbishop Allen Vigneron | Archdiocese of Detriot
In a recent announcement, the Archdiocese of Detroit revealed the decision to close St. Germaine Catholic School at the end of the academic year. The closure comes as a result of concerns about long-term operational viability and the ability to provide adequate spiritual care.
Archbishop Allen H. Vigneron expressed the challenging nature of the decision, stating, "While it is never the Archdiocese of Detroit’s desire to close a Catholic school, we recognize that circumstances at times require such difficult decisions."
The closure was finalized by the Team of Priests In Solidum serving the Gaudium et Spes Family of Parishes. They cited the reasons for the closure, emphasizing the importance of ensuring the school's sustainability and spiritual nurturing. The decision was reached after thorough deliberation and engagement with the school and parish communities, as well as the leadership of the Archdiocese of Detroit.
In a show of solidarity, the Archdiocese of Detroit affirmed its support for the Team of Priests' decision. Archbishop Vigneron extended gratitude to all those who have supported the school in recent weeks, offering assistance and prayers to the community during this challenging period. He added, "We join them in thanking all who have shown their support over these last few weeks and offer our assistance and prayers to the community during this difficult time."
As St. Germaine Catholic School prepares to conclude its academic year and close its doors, the Archdiocese of Detroit stands by the decision, acknowledging the significance of ensuring the long-term sustainability and spiritual well-being of Catholic educational institutions.
