Young men from the Catholic Diocese of Lincoln and beyond are invited to participate in a “Come and See” weekend hosted by St. Gregory the Great Seminary in Seward March 8-10. The weekend aims to provide a glimpse into the life of a seminarian and assist attendees in discerning their vocation.

Father Brian Kane, rector of the seminary, expressed that the weekend is "a nice opportunity for young men to see what it’s like to be at the seminary, and to be a seminarian."

The event will include presentations on discernment, testimonies from current seminarians, tours of the seminary building, and a chance to experience a day in the life of a seminarian. Father Kane shared, "We want them to see that this is a real possibility for a young, Catholic man," highlighting the community, life, and culture present at St. Gregory the Great.

Father Kane emphasized the importance of dispelling misconceptions about seminary life, stating, "The guys here are just like any other college students – they play sports, spend time together and study. They just do that in a place where they’re also growing closer to Jesus."

The “Come and See” weekend, a tradition spanning over 15 years, has attracted over 50 young men in previous editions. Vocation directors from partner dioceses will also be present to support attendees and engage with seminarians from their respective areas.

The goal of the weekend is not solely to recruit individuals for the priesthood but to provide a nurturing environment for discernment and spiritual growth. Father Kane mentioned that the event offers attendees "the opportunity to grow in their faith and come to know Jesus better so they can hear his voice."

Interested participants are encouraged to register by March 5 at a cost of $10 through the seminary's website. The weekend promises to be a valuable experience for young men considering a vocation to the priesthood.
