Catholic Social Services of Southern Nebraska (CSS) reported to the police on February 8th about the vandalism of a statue located at the front of its building near 23rd and O streets in Lincoln. The 5-foot-tall resin statue of the Virgin Mary was found placed upside down in a nearby trash bin on the property.

According to CSS spokesman John Soukup, an employee made the distressing discovery. Security footage revealed a male suspect prying the statue from its platform at around 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, February 7th. The statue had been securely attached to the platform using cement adhesive. Fortunately, the statue itself did not sustain significant damage.

Lincoln police have been notified and are currently investigating the incident. They are urging anyone with information about the vandalism to come forward and contact the Lincoln Police Department.

CSS and the local community are deeply saddened by this act of vandalism. The statue holds great significance for the organization and its members. It is a symbol of faith and devotion, and its desecration is deeply troubling.

In response to the incident, CSS spokesman John Soukup stated, "We are shocked and saddened by the vandalism of the statue at our headquarters. This act goes against the values of respect and tolerance that our organization upholds. We are fully cooperating with the police investigation and trust that justice will be served."

The Catholic Social Services of Southern Nebraska is a non-profit organization that provides a range of services to individuals and families in need. Their mission is rooted in the teachings of the Catholic Church and they strive to promote compassion, justice, and the dignity of every human being.

CSS is now taking steps to enhance security measures at their headquarters to prevent any further incidents of vandalism. They are also considering the possibility of replacing the statue with a new one.

This act of vandalism is a distressing reminder of the need for respect and tolerance within our communities. The Lincoln Police Department's investigation into the incident will hopefully lead to the identification and apprehension of the suspect responsible.
