SBA Pro-Life America has responded to recent actions by several Republican representatives who joined House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries in supporting a vote on extending Obamacare subsidies without the inclusion of Hyde Amendment protections. The organization stated that the outcome of this vote will play a key role in its political strategies for both the 2026 primaries and general election.
According to SBA Pro-Life America, "The House vote on the Jeffries plan to extend COVID-era Obamacare subsidies without Hyde protections will be a decisive factor in SBA Pro-Life America’s political engagement in both primaries and the general election in 2026."
The group highlighted Rep. Fitzpatrick's shift in position since entering Congress. "When Rep. Fitzpatrick entered Congress in 2017, one of his first votes was for the No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act, which would have permanently codified the Hyde Amendment and applied it to Obamacare. In 2019, he signed a letter urging President Trump to veto any bill that weakened pro-life taxpayer protections. Yet in 2025, he is now partnering with Hakeem Jeffries and every Democrat to force taxpayer-funded abortion – directly violating the Hyde Amendment he once championed and sought to strengthen," SBA Pro-Life America said.
The organization also noted that Reps. Mike Lawler, Rob Bresnahan, and Ryan Mackenzie have joined Fitzpatrick in signing Jeffries’ discharge petition, prompting a vote on legislation that does not include Hyde protections.
In October, more than 100 pro-life groups sent a letter to Congress asking lawmakers not to allow taxpayer funding of abortion through Obamacare.
SBA Pro-Life America describes itself as a network of over one million pro-life Americans focused on ending abortion by electing national leaders and advocating for laws that save lives, with an emphasis on promoting pro-life women leaders.
