Momentum is increasing in Congress for the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to reverse its policy allowing abortion drugs to be distributed by mail. A group of 175 Republican members of the House of Representatives, led by Rep. Chris Smith of New Jersey and Rep. Diana Harshbarger of Tennessee, have sent a letter to Secretary Robert F. Kennedy and FDA Commissioner Marty Makary requesting that the agency end the mail-order rule for abortion drugs.

This action follows a previous letter from 51 U.S. senators addressed to both the FDA and the Department of Health and Human Services, which called for reinstating in-person medical requirements for abortion drug prescriptions.

The lawmakers' letter comes after the FDA approved a new generic version of an abortion drug while maintaining the COVID-era policy that allows these medications to be sent through the mail. The representatives argue that this approach puts women and unborn children at risk and undermines state laws restricting abortion.

The letter urges federal officials "to swiftly reinstate in-person doctor visits and end Biden’s mail-order policy while the administration’s promised safety review is underway."

Marjorie Dannenfelser, president of Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America, released a statement on behalf of her organization:

"Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America is a network of more than one million pro-life Americans nationwide, dedicated to ending abortion by electing national leaders and advocating for laws that save lives, with a special calling to promote pro-life women leaders."
