The Rink at Franciscan Square will open for public ice skating on Friday, November 21, at 4:00 p.m., according to an announcement from Franciscan University of Steubenville. The outdoor rink, located in Steubenville, Ohio, is entering its second season as a permanent fixture and is part of the university’s community outreach efforts.
Open skating hours are scheduled for Wednesdays and Thursdays from 3:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., Fridays from 3:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., Saturdays from 11:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., and Sundays from noon to 7:00 p.m. Special holiday hours will also be available, though all times are subject to change.
Admission prices are set at $8 for adults aged 18 and older and $7 for those aged 17 and younger. Children aged three and under can skate for free. Skate rentals are available in all sizes for $5.
This year brings several new features, including the introduction of season passes, free hockey clinics for children sponsored by the Josh Merriman Foundation, and expanded pond hockey sessions for both adults and teenagers. The clinics are designed to teach children how to skate and introduce them to pond hockey basics through three sessions on November 22, November 29, and December 6. Registration is available by calling the provided number.
Pond hockey sessions have been expanded with adult play scheduled on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays, while teenagers can participate on Sunday nights. Updates about schedules or cancellations can be found on the Franciscan Square Facebook page.
Party packages and private rink rentals remain available options for groups or special events.
The facility also includes The Igloo—a sheltered area sponsored by The Steubenville Nutcracker Village—where non-skaters can watch activities while staying protected from weather conditions.
Visitors have access to nearby dining options at Franciscan Square such as Rubi’s Pizza and Grill, Jimmy John’s, and McCarthy’s Harp and Habit during their regular business hours.
The Rink is presented by Trinity Health System along with other local sponsors who support its seasonal operation from November through February depending on weather conditions.
