The Archdiocese of Chicago’s Immigration Ministry will hold its 13th annual Keep Hope Alive fundraiser on Monday, Nov. 3, 2025, at St. Ignatius College Prep in Chicago. The event aims to support Pastoral Migratoria, a ministry founded in Chicago that focuses on service and accompaniment for immigrants. This year’s theme is "Light in the Darkness."

Cardinal Cupich commented on the current challenges facing immigrant families: “In this city and across the country, men, women and children are living in fear – families are facing the prospect of deportation of one or both parents,” said Cardinal Cupich. “Pastoral Migratoria lay and religious leaders are on the front lines, responding to that fear with the promise and presence of accompaniment.”

During the event, Cardinal Cupich will address the importance of supporting immigrants and recognizing lay leaders’ contributions as communities deal with immigration enforcement actions.

Elena Segura, founder of Pastoral Migratoria and senior coordinator for immigration at the archdiocese, along with Jose Coronel, director of the Department of Human Dignity and Solidarity, will discuss recent work by the ministry. The fundraiser is co-chaired by Rev. L. Scott Donahue from Mercy Home for Boys & Girls and Peter O'Brien from MADO Management LP. Music will be performed by Sones de México Ensemble.

Community leaders who have contributed to immigrant support efforts will also be recognized during the event.

Pastoral Migratoria has grown since its start in Chicago in 2008 and now operates in several other dioceses including New York, Baltimore, Newark, Orange County (California), and Stockton (California). In 2026, it plans to expand into Los Angeles; Joliet, Illinois; and Paterson, New Jersey.

The ministry trains immigrants as community leaders to counter social forces that marginalize them. It also promotes unity among people based on Gospel values.
