A recent national survey conducted by McLaughlin & Associates shows that 70% of likely voters support reinstating the requirement for an in-person doctor visit to obtain a prescription for abortion drugs. This sentiment is shared by 57% of liberal voters, according to the survey. The poll also indicates that 70% of respondents believe it would be reasonable to restore safeguards that were previously removed by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) under the Biden administration.

The survey comes after the FDA approved a new generic abortion drug. Despite most participants identifying as pro-choice, the survey found widespread concern about the safety of the current FDA policy, which allows abortion drugs to be distributed by mail.

Earlier in October, 51 Republican U.S. senators, led by Senator Lindsey Graham of South Carolina, sent a letter to Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and FDA Commissioner Marty Makary urging them to reconsider the current policy and reinstate stricter regulations.

Marjorie Dannenfelser, president of Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America, commented on the survey results: "Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America is a network of more than one million pro-life Americans nationwide, dedicated to ending abortion by electing national leaders and advocating for laws that save lives, with a special calling to promote pro-life women leaders."
