Dr. Timothy J. Collins, President | Walsh University

President Tim Collins of Walsh University has expressed approval for the recent United States Supreme Court rulings, which emphasize the role of parents as primary educators of their children. In a statement, Collins highlighted that this responsibility does not fall to school boards, governments, or teachers.

Collins stated, "Parents have the inalienable duty to love their children and to provide for their health and education." He emphasized that these obligations are fulfilled by "the authority given to them by the law of nature — not the law of man," describing it as essential for human flourishing.

Citing religious teachings, Collins referred to the Catechism of the Catholic Church, which asserts that parents have the foremost responsibility in educating their children. He described this teaching as a "2,000-year-old lesson from Jesus himself."

Walsh University acknowledges these legal decisions and views them as a reminder that educators are meant to support parents. The university sees itself as part of a long tradition in higher education that aligns with these principles.
