Today, the U.S. Supreme Court affirmed Tennessee's law that prohibits transgender procedures for minors in the case of United States v. Skrmetti. The decision comes after the American Principles Project (APP) filed an amicus brief in October 2024, advocating for children and families against what they describe as "the left’s gender insanity."
The Tennessee statute restricts the use of puberty blockers, gender transition surgeries, and cross-sex hormones for minors. According to studies cited by supporters of the law, up to 95% of children with gender dysphoria resolve these feelings by adulthood. In response to similar concerns, 26 states have enacted legislation akin to Tennessee's.
Terry Schilling, President of the American Principles Project, commented on the Supreme Court's ruling:
"This is a huge win for American families across the country who are tired of having their children used as political pawns by radical ideologues pushing a dangerous agenda."
Schilling emphasized that "the people overwhelmingly reject these procedures" and urged more states to pass similar laws to protect children from what he termed "a predatory medical establishment."
He further stated: "In Congress, Republicans must also continue their efforts to end this abuse once and for all."
The decision marks a significant development in ongoing national debates about transgender rights and healthcare access for minors.
