Bishop Robert Barron, chairman of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops’ Committee on Laity, Marriage, Family Life, and Youth, has expressed his views regarding a recent Executive Order signed by President Trump. The order is titled "Protecting Children from Chemical and Surgical Mutilation."
Bishop Barron stated, “Helping young people accept their bodies and their vocation as women and men is the true path of freedom and happiness.” He welcomed the Executive Order that prohibits the promotion and federal funding of procedures aimed at changing a child's sex. According to Bishop Barron, these procedures are based on a false understanding of human nature.
He highlighted concerns about young people who have undergone such interventions experiencing significant regrets due to consequences like infertility and lifelong reliance on costly hormone therapies with serious side effects. Bishop Barron emphasized that it is unacceptable for children to be encouraged toward what he described as destructive medical interventions instead of receiving authentic care.
Furthermore, Bishop Barron praised the Executive Order's objective to identify and develop research-based therapies for young individuals dealing with gender dysphoria. He stressed that these individuals deserve care that heals rather than harms, stating they are loved by God and possess inherent dignity.
