President Trump has signed an executive order aimed at protecting children from medical procedures and treatments intended to alter their sex. The order directs several policy changes, including actions by the Secretary of Health and Human Services to prohibit chemical and surgical interventions on minors. It also involves defunding these practices through military insurance TRICARE and federal grants.
The Department of Justice is instructed to prioritize investigations into individuals promoting or engaging in such practices. Additionally, the order seeks collaboration with Congress to establish a private right of action for affected children and their parents. It calls for ending reliance on guidelines from the World Professional Association of Transgender Health (WPATH) in favor of conducting rigorous research on gender dysphoria.
Terry Schilling, President of the American Principles Project (APP), expressed support for the executive order. He stated, "The castration and mutilation of minors, under the euphemism of ‘gender affirming care,’ has become one of the worst medical scandals in our nation’s history." Schilling emphasized that President Trump's actions fulfill campaign promises made against what he termed as "gender extremism."
Schilling further commented, "Thanks to this executive order, countless children and their families will hopefully be spared from the terrible harm of transgender drugs and surgeries." He urged Congress to ensure that similar medical practices do not harm more children in the future.
Last year, APP published a report titled “The Gender Industrial Complex,” outlining concerns about what they describe as a predatory transgender medical industry.
