Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary will host Montse Alvarado, the president and chief operating officer of EWTN News, for its annual John Cardinal Foley Lecture. Alvarado's lecture, titled "The Church and Social Communications," is scheduled for Monday, February 3, 2025, at 7:00 p.m. It will take place at Gwynedd Mercy University in Gwynedd Valley, Pennsylvania.
Bishop Keith J. Chylinski, Rector of Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary, along with Reverend Thomas F. Dailey and others from the seminary community, will be present at the event. The lecture is open to the public without charge and will also be streamed live on the seminary’s website and Facebook page.
The John Cardinal Foley Lecture is organized by the Cardinal Foley Chair for Homiletics & Social Communications at Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary.
Montse Alvarado leads EWTN News as its president and chief operating officer. She oversees a range of global news media platforms under EWTN that produce content in multiple languages including English and Spanish. Her role extends to serving as the founding anchor of "EWTN News in Depth," a program focused on current events affecting the Church and broader society from a Catholic perspective.
Alvarado has been acknowledged for her leadership within the Catholic community and contributes to various apostolates addressing issues such as secularization and demographic changes within the Church. She was born in Mexico City and holds degrees from George Washington University and Florida International University.
