Franciscan University of Steubenville has announced the successful conclusion of its Rebuild My Church Capital Campaign, which raised $125 million. This campaign is the most successful fundraising effort in the University's history, significantly surpassing its previous campaigns.

University leadership credits this success to the generosity and enthusiasm of alumni and donors. "I am so grateful and inspired by the amazing generosity of our alumni and friends," stated Father Dave Pivonka, TOR ’89, president of Franciscan University. He emphasized that each donation represents a supporter who believes in the University's mission.

The funds will support various initiatives, including academic enhancements and student scholarships. A major project is the construction of Christ the Teacher Academic Hall and Event Center, which opened in fall 2024. The new building features advanced classrooms and labs for nursing, engineering, and business programs.

Another significant initiative is the renovation of Christ the King Chapel, expected to be completed by August 2025. The campaign also provided nearly $40 million for scholarships and financial aid to keep education affordable.

New academic programs funded by the campaign include a Criminal Justice Program, a Leadership Institute and Entrepreneurship Program, and a PhD in Theology Program. Additionally, outreach efforts such as the Ward and Kathy Fitzgerald Franciscan University Homeland Mission in Washington D.C., are supported by these funds.

Launched in December 2021 with an initial goal of $75 million, later increased to $110 million due to overwhelming support, the campaign ultimately exceeded expectations by raising $125 million. Bob Hickey, vice president of Advancement at Franciscan University, highlighted contributions from nearly 1,000 alumni totaling over $28 million.

"We experienced some beautiful stories over the last three years," said Hickey about interactions with alumni and donors. One memorable visit involved a couple moved to tears when asked for their support: "I am so honored that you would think enough of us to ask us for this gift," said one donor.

The campaign's name draws inspiration from Jesus' words to St. Francis of Assisi: "Francis, go and rebuild my Church." It aligns with Franciscan University's strategic plan aimed at forming builders for Christ within Catholic communities.

Although celebrating its success, the University continues accepting donations for ongoing projects like Christ the Teacher Academic Hall and Event Center as well as Christ the King Chapel. More information can be found at giving.franciscan.edu/rebuild-my-church.
