Rev. James D. Conley, D.D., S.T.L. | Diocese of Lincoln website
The 2024 Diocesan Teacher’s Institute took place on October 14 at the Embassy Suites in Lincoln, bringing together Catholic educators and administrators for a day dedicated to inspiration and professional development.
Father Robert Spitzer, known for his EWTN show “Father Spitzer’s Universe” and as president of the Magis Center of Reason and Faith, was invited by Bishop James D. Conley to deliver the keynote address. He discussed the complementarity of faith and science, offering a relevant message for educators working in a technology-driven environment.
Besides Father Spitzer's presentation, attendees participated in breakout sessions focused on classroom techniques and technology. The Institute is part of the diocese's continuous effort to support its educators, highlighting their crucial role in promoting both academic and spiritual growth within Catholic schools.
Father Lawrence Stoley, diocesan director of Catholic schools, highlighted the significance of nurturing a Catholic culture within educational institutions: “If we do our job well, teachers are able to do what they love—teach. And in a Catholic school, teaching is about leading children to heaven.”
He noted that the event was aimed not only at professional development but also at providing spiritual enrichment, reminding educators of their significant vocation.
