Providing refreshments on a hot day for patrons of The Lord's Diner were Isaac Paulie, Joe Paulie, and Ethan Paulie. Isaac and Ethan are students at St. Mary's Colgan in Pittsburg. Those interested in joining the Loving All Guests (LAG) team in Pittsburg can contact Anna at 620-240-4134 or [email protected].
The Lord’s Diner truck operates Monday through Friday with stops at various locations: The Towers and Stilwell Apartments from 3 to 3:45 p.m., Knights of Columbus Hall from 4:15 to 5:15 p.m., and Demarus Park from 5:30 to 6 p.m.
Silas Rosiere and his crew aim to nourish both the bodies and souls of their clients. "About 85 percent of our guests are low-income, and 10 to 15 percent are experiencing homelessness," Rosiere said. "The LAG team is a team of volunteers who waits outside of the truck to get to know our guests."
The ministry operates without a permanent site, relying on its mobile service. Volunteers Bonnie Crossland, Lenore Biby, and Chris Simmons distribute hygiene products among other items to patrons. "While we get to meet our guests and spend time with them," Rosiere said, "we typically have some kind of cold drink for a hot day or vice versa."
Rosiere emphasized the importance of treating guests as people. "Something I’ve noticed is that the people we serve are people," he said. He added that personal connection is vital for many guests who often feel isolated.
The LAG team has been active for about a year, with Rosiere leading since July after completing Christ in the City training in June.
Emily Thome, director of The Lord’s Diner, explained their mission: “First, in our mission, we are called ‘to recognize our guests as Christ and share life’ with them.” She highlighted how the LAG Team helps fulfill this mission by offering friendship alongside food.
