The Eternal Word Television Network (EWTN), a Catholic television network, recently visited Nebraska to produce several reports of international interest. EWTN, known for its round-the-clock Catholic-themed programming, reaches an audience of over 425 million people in 160 countries.
During their visit, correspondent Mark Irons and his team worked on four stories set to air at various times. One report focuses on Nebraska's abortion ballot initiatives. "We spoke with Tom Venzor at the Nebraska Catholic Conference about ballot initiatives 434 and 439 and why Catholics should get out and make their voices heard this November," Irons said. Initiative 434 aims to uphold health and safety protections for women and babies, while Initiative 439 seeks to legalize late-term abortion in Nebraska. This segment is scheduled to broadcast on October 18 on EWTN News In-Depth.
Another story features Nebraska state Senator Mike McDonnell discussing his decision to switch from the Democratic Party to the Republican Party due to his pro-life stance. "Nebraska state Sen. Mike McDonnell spoke to us about becoming Republican after facing backlash in the Democratic party for his pro-life views," Irons mentioned. The senator expressed that he prioritizes faith over politics and draws inspiration from St. Thomas More. This report will air on October 24 on EWTN Pro-Life Weekly.
EWTN also explored Boys Town, delving into the legacy of its founder Father Flanagan. This piece follows a recent documentary release about Father Flanagan and will be shown later in November or December.
The final story centers around faith, family, and farming with the Clark family in McCool Junction. The segment highlights how their Catholic beliefs influence their farming lifestyle. "We spent the day with the Clark family in McCool Junction, and learned all about the influence of their Catholic faith on family farming," said Irons. Father Eric Clark celebrated Mass for his community during this visit.
Father Kenneth Borowiak assisted in coordinating activities in McCool Junction and expressed gratitude towards both him and the Clark family for welcoming them during harvest season.
Irons shared positive reflections on their trip: “We really enjoyed our trip,” he added. “Working with the diocese was fantastic, and we were welcomed by all.”
