Christian Brothers University (CBU) has announced the recipients of its 2024 Distinguished Alumni Awards, which will be presented during CBU’s Alumni Weekend on September 20-21. The awards — the Distinguished Alumnus/a Award and the Distinguished Young Alumnus/a Award — honor graduates who have achieved notable success, contributed significantly to their professions, supported CBU's efforts, and engaged in public service or church activities.
Carolyn Henry, a graduate of the CBU Class of 1992, will receive the Distinguished Alumna Award. Henry is recognized for her achievements in finance, film, and philanthropy. Born in Clarksdale, MS, she faced early adversities but moved to Memphis in 1985 where a mock interview at the Memphis Urban League led to a position at First Tennessee Bank. She earned her bachelor's degree in accounting from CBU while working full-time and later obtained an MBA from the University of Phoenix.
Henry has over 30 years of experience in finance roles across major corporations including the Internal Revenue Service and FedEx Services. Since January 2021, she has been the chief financial officer and shareholder of BLP Film Studios, LLC. Her creative ventures include producing “The City of Crosses” and executive producing films like “Hidden Orchard Mysteries.” She is also involved with several community organizations such as Habitat for Humanity and FedEx Cares.
Dr. Cameron Volpe Fili, a graduate of the CBU Class of 2013, will receive the Distinguished Young Alumna Award for her work in veterinary medicine and volunteerism. As a student at CBU, Dr. Fili was awarded the Plough Scholarship which covered her tuition for four years. She graduated with honors in Biology with a minor in Chemistry before attending Mississippi State University College of Veterinary Medicine.
Dr. Fili completed a residency at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center and is board-certified by the American College of Laboratory Animal Medicine. Since 2020, she has served as a veterinary medical officer at FDA National Center for Toxicological Research outside Little Rock, AR.
Her family tradition at CBU includes multiple generations graduating from there; notably her parents received this same award back in 1993. Dr. Fili's volunteer work spans animal welfare services to community theatre productions where she continues to engage actively alongside her husband Jonathan Fili.
