Cardinal Joseph W. Tobin, C.Ss.R., D.D. Archbishop | Archdiocese of Newark website
The Catholic Cemeteries of the Archdiocese of Newark invites the public to honor the memories of fallen heroes and celebrate the service of veterans and active-duty military personnel at Memorial Day Masses on Monday, May 27, 2024, at 11:00 AM across various archdiocesan cemeteries. This is part of a national celebration titled “Serving God and Country: A Memorial Day Salute to Our Heroes,” developed by the Catholic Cemetery Conference.
This program honors men and women who died while serving in the armed forces, as well as recognizing both active duty military and veterans. Joseph M. Heckel, K.H.S., CCCE Executive Director of Catholic Cemeteries, said, “Let us come together to pay tribute to the brave men and women who have served our nation with honor and sacrifice. We are called to cherish their memories, support their families, and celebrate their legacies.”
Most Masses will be held outdoors under large canopy tents with seating provided. Cardinal Joseph W. Tobin, C.Ss.R., D.D., Archbishop of Newark, will be at main celebrant Mass at Holy Cross Cemetery which is currently constructing the Open-Air Mausoleum of the Holy Spirit.
Memorial Day Mass will also be celebrated simultaneously at various Archdiocesan Catholic Cemeteries locations with distinguished celebrants including Most Reverend Manuel A. Cruz, D.D., Most Reverend Michael A. Saporito, D.D., Most Reverend Elias R. Lorenzo, O.S.B., D.D., Most Reverend Gregory J. Studerus, D.D., Very Reverend John J.
