Dr. Peter Latona, director of music at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, D.C., is scheduled to present an organ recital and lead a workshop on liturgical music at Holy Spirit Church, located at 3345 Lexington Road.

The organ recital will take place at 7 p.m. on October 3 and is free and open to the public.

A workshop titled “What makes music appropriate for worship?” will be held from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on October 4. Parish choir directors, singers, organists, and other church musicians are encouraged to attend.

According to an announcement, participants will “learn practical rehearsal techniques, explore accessible choral and service music, and gain insight into liturgical and compositional principles.”

Registration for the workshop costs $25. An optional lunch is available after the session for $13. Those interested can register by September 29 at www.hspirit.org/recital. For additional details, contact Allen Blehl, Holy Spirit Church’s music director, at ablehl@hspirit.org.
