Walsh University has announced the cancellation of an event that was to feature Genelle Guzman-McMillan, known as the last survivor rescued from the World Trade Center rubble. The event was scheduled for Wednesday, September 3, 2025, at 6:30 p.m. in the Barrette Business and Community Center.

The university cited unforeseen personal circumstances as the reason for the cancellation and expressed respect for Ms. Guzman-McMillan. "Due to unforeseen personal circumstances, and out of respect for Ms. Guzman-McMillan, the program will not take place as planned."

Guzman-McMillan’s account of survival during the September 11 attacks has inspired many people worldwide. Walsh University acknowledged disappointment over not being able to host her presentation and reception but indicated hope to reschedule in the future. "Ms. Guzman-McMillan’s powerful story of survival, faith, and resilience continues to inspire people across the world. While we share in the disappointment of not being able to host this remarkable presentation and reception tonight, we remain hopeful to reschedule the event at a future date."

The university also thanked supporters and encouraged reflection on themes of resilience and hope ahead of the 24th anniversary of September 11, 2001. "We thank everyone for their understanding and support, and encourage all to continue reflecting on the enduring themes of resilience and hope as we approach the 24th anniversary of September 11, 2001."

Updates regarding any rescheduling will be posted at www.walsh.edu/angel.
