Revered Carl A. Kemme, D.D. Bishop | Diocese of Witchita
Three seminarians are set to be ordained to the transitional diaconate at 6 p.m. Thursday, May 23, in the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Wichita. The ordination will be conducted by Bishop Carl A. Kemme and will mark an important step in their journey towards priesthood.
Nicholas Samsel, one of the seminarians, expressed his excitement about the upcoming ordination, stating, "It is amazing to finally be at this point of my time in seminary where I will enter into the clerical state and start engaging in active ministry in the diocese." He also shared his gratitude towards the faithful of the Diocese of Wichita for their prayers and support, noting, "There is something unimaginably exciting to me to be able to serve as God’s instrument to be able to bring more members into his church."
Grant Huslig, another seminarian, admitted to feeling nervous about the ordination but emphasized his surrender to God's will, saying, "My ordination will be a surrender into the hands of a God who has proven himself to be faithful and generous." He also expressed his eagerness to preach and bring alive the Word of God for others.
Joseph Mick, the third seminarian, shared his anticipation for the diaconate ordination, highlighting the commitment involved in dedicating their lives to Jesus and his church. He also mentioned his excitement about the opportunity to minister in a parish with a Spanish Mass and the upcoming pilgrimage to France following his ordination.
The families of these seminarians have been a source of support and encouragement throughout their journey. Joseph Mick's mother, Christie, reflected on her son's vocation, expressing humility and deep gratitude for God's calling in his life. She described Joseph as a contemplative soul and a living proof of their loving God.
As these three seminarians prepare for their ordination to the diaconate, they carry with them a sense of purpose, gratitude, and a commitment to serve the Church and its members.
