Georgia Governor Brian Kemp has signed SB 351 into law, a measure aimed at protecting children from online obscenity. The new law will require adult websites to verify the ages of users to prevent minors from accessing inappropriate content.
According to the American Principles Project (APP), Georgia is now the 15th state to enact legislation safeguarding children from online pornography, and the 7th state to do so in 2024. The organization has been actively involved in advocating for similar bills nationwide. Sandra Kirby, a representative of APP, was present during the bill signing in Georgia.
In response to the enactment of the new law, APP President Terry Schilling praised the efforts of Governor Kemp and Georgia lawmakers. Schilling emphasized the importance of age verification on adult websites, stating, "Today, children are first exposed to online pornography on average at age 12. No sane person believes this is healthy or acceptable." He further added, "Requiring the porn industry to adhere to the same standards as alcohol and tobacco retailers and online gambling sites is a political no-brainer."
Schilling called for other states and leaders in Washington to follow Georgia's example in protecting children from the harmful effects of online obscenity. He expressed gratitude towards the state's initiative in addressing the issue and urged collective action in safeguarding the innocence of children.
