Louisville parishes announce upcoming Masses, support groups, blood drives, and community events

Several Catholic parishes and organizations in Louisville have announced a series of events and support groups for August.

St. Margaret Mary Church will host a Special Disciples of Jesus Mass on August 17 at 3 p.m., inviting special needs families and friends to attend. The Mass is shortened for children, with a light reception following the service. Tara Mattingly is available for more information.

The St. Serra Club of Louisville plans a Holy Hour for Vocations at 12:30 p.m. on August 13, also at St. Margaret Mary Church, aiming to promote religious vocations in the community.

At St. John Paul II Church, young adults can participate in the “Dead Theologians Society” prayer group on the first Wednesday of each month from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., which includes prayer, food, and social opportunities.

Catholic singles have several opportunities to connect: The Catholic Single Adults Club will meet for Putt-Putt and dinner on August 10; Catholic Singles of Louisville meets monthly for prayer services and social gatherings.

The Young Catholic Professionals Louisville Chapter, together with Family Renewal Project, will hold an executive panel discussion titled “Vocation vs. Vocation: Discerning Dating, Marriage and Religious Life” on August 22 at 500 West Jefferson St., starting at 5:30 p.m. The event is free with complimentary refreshments.

Support groups continue to offer resources across parishes: Ups & Downs meets monthly at Forest Hills Commons Assisted Living Facility as a ministry of St. Michael Church; GRASP (Grief Recovery After a Substance Passing) gathers at Holy Trinity Church for those grieving loss due to addiction; Hope and Healing Grief Group convenes at St. Albert the Great Church for similar support; NAMI family support group also meets monthly at St. Albert the Great Church to help those caring for individuals with mental illness.

Blood drives are scheduled by local churches in partnership with the American Red Cross: St. Edward Church will hold its drive on August 7 from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m., while Holy Trinity Church’s drive takes place on August 15 from noon until 5 p.m., both encouraging online sign-ups through https://www.redcrossblood.org/.

Flaget Alumni Association’s next luncheon is set for August 13 featuring retired NFL referee Bobby McGrath as speaker.

The Archdiocese of Louisville Cursillo Movement hosts its Grand Ultreya gathering on August 16 at St. James Church’s Robbie Thomas Building in Elizabethtown.

A Knights of Columbus chicken dinner fundraiser will take place August 24 at St. Paul Church, supporting Wednesday’s Child Foster Children Christmas Program.

Bible studies led by Father Joe Rankin are scheduled at St. Rita Church on August 5 and August 12.

Sts. Simon and Jude Church will offer a presentation discussing Jesus’ portrayal in the four Gospels along with an overview of Pauline theology on August 7.
