Bishop Thomas John Paprocki | Diocese of Springfield
Pope Francis has named Teresa Morris Kettelkamp, a parishioner of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Springfield, as adjunct secretary to the Pontifical Commission for the Protection of Minors (PCPM). The PCPM, an independent body established in 2014, advises the pope on safeguarding minors and vulnerable adults within the Church.
Kettelkamp, a former Illinois law enforcement professional who previously served in the United States bishops' Office for Child and Youth Protection, expressed gratitude for her appointment, acknowledging the support of others in her journey. She emphasized her commitment to contributing as an advisor to the PCPM's mission of protecting children and the vulnerable, while ensuring that survivors of abuse have a voice in the Church's efforts.
With a distinguished career as a colonel in the Illinois State Police, Kettelkamp brings a wealth of experience to her new role. She led various divisions within the ISP, including crime labs, crime scene services, and the Division of Internal Investigation, overseeing inquiries into misconduct allegations.
Looking ahead, Kettelkamp disclosed her plans to return to Rome in May and later in October to fulfill her responsibilities within the Pontifical Commission for the Protection of Minors. Her appointment underscores the Church's ongoing commitment to addressing issues of abuse and ensuring the safety of its most vulnerable members.
