STEUBENVILLE, OH—Franciscan University of Steubenville’s Schola Cantorum Franciscana is set to enchant audiences with a sacred music concert titled “The God Bearer” on two upcoming dates. The first performance will take place on Friday, April 26, at 7:00 p.m. at Franciscan University’s Christ the King Chapel. The second concert will be held on Friday, May 3, at 8:00 p.m. at Holy Trinity Church in Robinson Township, Pennsylvania.
According to Dr. Vincent Rone, director of Schola Cantorum Franciscana and adjunct professor of sacred music at Franciscan University, the concert will showcase a selection of sacred choral music inspired by hymns to the Blessed Virgin Mary from different seasons. The repertoire will include works by renowned composers such as Sergei Rachmaninoff, Benjamin Britten, Maurice Duruflé, and more.
Dr. Rone highlighted the choir's evolution, stating, "Originally formed as a liturgical choir, the Schola Cantorum Franciscana has since expanded its mission to show to the Franciscan and local communities the beauty of religious and liturgical art for the greater glory of God." He also expressed a desire for community support, urging attendees to "encourage others to attend and experience beautiful choral music."
Both concerts are free of charge and open to the public, offering an opportunity for music enthusiasts and the community to immerse themselves in the captivating sounds of sacred music.
