E.J. Kuiper has been appointed as the next President and Chief Executive Officer of Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady Health System (FMOLHS), following an extensive nationwide search. The announcement was made by Bobby Yarborough, FMOLHS Board Chair, who expressed confidence in Kuiper's leadership abilities and dedication to Catholic healthcare.

In a statement, Kuiper shared his excitement about the new role, saying, “Serving as President and CEO of FMOLHS provides a wonderful opportunity to lead a strong healthcare system dedicated to improving the lives of the patients and communities that we serve across the Gulf South.” He also expressed his commitment to building upon the strategic vision of his predecessors.

Sister Laura Wolf, Chair of Franciscan Calais Ministries, the sponsor of FMLOHS, praised Kuiper for his deep faith and advocacy for Catholic healthcare. She emphasized his ability to bring vision and strength of service to the role, which are crucial for the long-term stability and growth of the ministry.

Kuiper, who joins FMOLHS from CommonSpirit Health, has a strong background in healthcare leadership. Prior to this new role, he served as CEO of the Midwest Division at CommonSpirit Health, overseeing 28 hospitals and a large workforce. His experience in driving operational excellence and commitment to quality patient care are expected to benefit FMOLHS as he takes on this new position.

Kuiper will be succeeding retiring President and CEO, Richard R. Vath, M.D., who has dedicated 40 years to serving the healthcare needs of the people in Louisiana and Mississippi. With a track record of success in his previous roles, including CEO of the Illinois Division of Hospital Sisters Health System, Kuiper is well-positioned to lead FMOLHS into the future.

Originally from the Netherlands, Kuiper began his career as a physical therapist in Florida before gradually moving into leadership positions within the healthcare industry. He holds a Doctor of Physical Therapy from the University of St. Augustine and a Master of Science in Health Science and Health Services Administration from Florida Gulf Coast University.

Kuiper's appointment as the new President and CEO of FMOLHS marks a significant milestone for the healthcare system, and his leadership is expected to continue the progress and growth of the organization.
