Revered Carl A. Kemme, D.D. Bishop | Diocese of Witchita

Deacon Keith Strohm recently addressed representatives from various parishes in the Diocese of Wichita, urging them to initiate a culture shift within their communities. Speaking at St. Patrick Parish in Parsons and Blessed Sacrament Parish in Wichita, Deacon Strohm emphasized the importance of Creating a Culture of Discipleship.

During his presentations, Deacon Strohm highlighted the five paradigm shifts essential for parish renewal: "From Institutional Faith to intentional faith, Engagement to Encounter, Maintenance to Mission, Programs to People, and From Avoidance to Accountability." Audrey Ronnfeldt, the diocesan director of the Stewardship Office, shared insights from the deacon's talks, focusing on the cultural values of parishes and the need for transformation.

Using an iceberg as a metaphor for a parish, Deacon Strohm emphasized the significance of addressing the underlying issues of discipleship, stating, "We have to change from relying on a program to accompanying people." He stressed the importance of fostering a strong relationship with Jesus to effectively share the faith with others.

Ronnfeldt echoed the sentiment, noting the necessity for parishes to act as "Easter people" and embrace the living presence of Jesus. She emphasized the role of diocesan offices in providing support and guidance to parishes, with various directors actively participating in the events.

The gatherings, aimed at helping and supporting local parishes, were designed to inspire continued service and collaboration within the community. Ronnfeldt expressed gratitude to all attendees and contributors, highlighting the ongoing need for parish representatives to work together in fostering a culture of discipleship and mission.

In closing, Ronnfeldt shared a quote from the book "From Christendom to Apostolic Mission," emphasizing the importance of understanding the current age and cooperating with the Holy Spirit in spreading the message of Jesus Christ. The events served as a reminder of the collective responsibility to embrace the challenges of the New Apostolic age and remain faithful stewards of the faith.
