The Diocese of Wichita is taking proactive steps to address the pervasive influence of pornography on families and relationships. With studies showing that 56% of divorce cases involve pornography as a contributing factor, it is clear that this issue poses a significant threat to personal and family stability.

In response to this crisis, the Diocese of Wichita will be observing Safe Haven Sunday on the first weekend of Lent, Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 17-18. This initiative aims to shine a spotlight on the importance of safeguarding marriages and families from the detrimental effects of pornography.

Jake Samour, the director of the Office of Marriage and Family Life, emphasizes the need for active solutions and support in combating this challenge. He affirms that it is a common misconception among Catholics and other faith communities that spiritual beliefs alone can shield individuals from the temptations of pornography. Instead, it is crucial to actively seek out strategies and resources to confront this issue head-on.

To aid individuals and families in addressing the issue of pornography, the Diocese of Wichita has launched a new website, CatholicDioceseOfWichita.org/safe-haven. This website provides a wealth of resources for families, couples, and individuals struggling with addiction to pornography. Additionally, the site offers links to therapists and counselors who specialize in addressing this issue.

In partnership with Covenant Eyes, the diocese is also offering the Safe Digital Family Challenge. This seven-day program provides digital education and encouragement directly to participants' emails. By enrolling in this challenge, individuals join a movement dedicated to reclaiming our culture for the betterment of our faith and family values.

Furthermore, free e-books are available for parents and caregivers on the Covenant Eyes website (covenanteyes.com/e-books). These resources provide valuable information and guidance on navigating the dangers of pornography and protecting children from its harmful effects.

As the technological landscape continues to evolve, it is crucial for individuals and families to equip themselves with the tools and knowledge needed to combat the influence of pornography. By actively engaging in this mission, we can create a safe haven for our families and contribute to the development of healthier and stronger communities.

Safe Haven Sunday serves as a reminder for the faith community to come together and address the challenges posed by pornography. By empowering ourselves with resources and support, we can protect our marriages and families from the destructive impact of pornography. Together, we can reclaim this ground for Christ and foster a culture that upholds our faith and family values.
