Hastings Catholic Social Services (Hastings CSS) has been recognized as the Business of the Year in the Non-Profit category at the annual meeting of the Hastings Chamber of Commerce. This prestigious award acknowledges the outstanding achievements of nonprofit organizations in the Hastings area. Amongst a select group of winners, Hastings CSS stood out for its remarkable contributions to the community.

John McDonald, the regional director of Hastings CSS, graciously accepted the award and humbly acknowledged the collective effort of the organization. He expressed his gratitude towards the generous donors, the dedicated marketing and development team, and the countless volunteers who play a vital role in the success of Hastings CSS. McDonald stated, "The credit for any awards does not solely belong to me. It belongs to the generous donors supporting our programs, the dedicated marketing and development team promoting Hastings CSS, and the nearly 100 volunteers who are the backbone of our operations each month."

The nomination process for the Non-Profit Business of the Year Award began last fall, and to be nominated itself was an honor for Hastings CSS. However, being selected as the winner was truly a blessing. McDonald highlighted the evolution of the Hastings office over the past 30 years, emphasizing its adaptability to the needs of the community. He mentioned that Hastings CSS has become a stronghold in the battle against food insecurity, poverty, and homelessness. The success of the organization today is a testament to the contributions of past staff and volunteers over the course of three decades.

The award was based on the most recent statistics from Hastings CSS, which showcased the immense impact of the organization. In the past year alone, Hastings CSS delivered 175 tons of food to clients in Hastings and 14 food pantries in central Nebraska. Additionally, they provided $115,000 in monetary assistance and offered rent and utility support to 180 households. The organization also recycled 60 tons of clothing and provided furniture to 62 households in need.

Volunteers play a significant role in the operations of Hastings CSS, and their dedication is commendable. Over 10,000 volunteer hours were logged, demonstrating the unwavering commitment of individuals from various walks of life and affiliations. These volunteers, along with the staff at Hastings CSS, distributed 237 food boxes and 181 holiday boxes to those in need.

Headquartered in Lincoln, Catholic Social Services of Southern Nebraska has outreach centers in Hastings, Auburn, and Imperial. Hastings CSS, in addition to its services, such as the St. Joseph Gift & Thrift Store, offers family support services, financial assistance, support for survivors of domestic violence and crisis pregnancies through the St. Gianna Program, and food market and meal services.

The recognition of Hastings CSS as the Non-Profit Business of the Year is a testament to their unwavering dedication to serving the community. Their tireless efforts in fighting food insecurity, poverty, and homelessness have made a significant impact in the lives of many. Congratulations to Hastings CSS on this well-deserved honor.
