Iona University has announced the honorees for its upcoming Trustees Scholarship Award Gala, which will take place on April 25, 2024. The event, held annually, recognizes distinguished alumni and community leaders who have made significant contributions to their fields. The gala aims to raise funds to support student scholarships.

This year, the 2024 Iona Legacy Award will be presented to Robert J. DeLuccia, Edward R. McNally Jr., Monica L., and John C. Judge. Robert J. DeLuccia is the co-founder and executive chairman of Acurx Pharmaceuticals, a biopharmaceutical company focused on developing antibiotics for infections caused by priority pathogens. Edward R. McNally Jr. has had a successful career as a business executive, and he endowed the McNally Family Scholarship at Iona to support students in need. Monica L. and John C. Judge have been great ambassadors for Iona, with John serving as the vice president and CFO of Coaches Cure CF, an organization dedicated to raising funds for Cystic Fibrosis research.

President Seamus Carey, Ph.D., extended his congratulations to the honorees, stating, "Our distinguished alumni continue to champion the Iona mission and pave the way for future generations of Gaels. It is an honor to celebrate and recognize their achievements as we also raise important scholarship funds to support our students."

The Trustees Scholarship Award Gala has a long history of honoring prominent and successful leaders. Past honorees include His Eminence Timothy Cardinal Dolan, Francis Cardinal Spellman, New York Governor Malcolm Wilson, U.S. Senator Edward Kennedy, former New York Yankee Mariano Rivera, New York City Police Commissioner Ray Kelly, and Ice Bucket Challenge co-founder Pat Quinn.
