Deacon Greg Cecere, a beloved member of the Archdiocese of Cincinnati, has passed away at the age of 77. He dedicated 36 years of his life to serving as a permanent deacon in the Archdiocese, leaving a lasting impact on the community.
Deacon Greg was ordained by Archbishop Daniel Pilarczyk on June 20, 1987, and from that moment forward, he embraced his role as a spiritual guide and mentor. His commitment to his faith and his parishioners was unwavering throughout his years of service.
Upon his ordination, Deacon Greg was assigned to Our Lady Queen of Peace Parish at Wright Patterson Air Force Base. During his time there, he also became a member of the Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA, further expanding his reach and providing support to those serving in the armed forces.
In 1993, Deacon Greg was reassigned to the Queen of Apostles Catholic Community in Dayton, where he continued to touch the lives of many. His compassionate nature and dedication to his ministry earned him the love and respect of all who knew him.
The Archdiocese of Cincinnati is deeply saddened by the loss of Deacon Greg Cecere. His passing leaves a void in the hearts of those who had the privilege of working alongside him and being guided by his wisdom. Archbishop Daniel Pilarczyk expressed his condolences, saying, "Deacon Greg was a true servant of God, and his commitment to our Archdiocese was exemplary. He will be greatly missed."
A Mass of Christian Burial and interment will be held at a future date on the Mount St. John property in Beavercreek. The details of the service are expected to be announced in April 2024. The deacon community will be notified when the arrangements are finalized.
