Ursuline Sister Rose Karen Johnson Passes Away at 83

Ursuline Sister Rose Karen Johnson, a dedicated member of the religious community, has passed away at the age of 83. Sister Johnson, who had been in her 66th year of religious life, died on January 15 at Mount St. Joseph in Maple Mount, Ky.

Born in St. Lawrence, Ky, Sister Johnson served in various locations including the Archdiocese of Louisville, the Diocese of Owensboro, and Missouri. In the Archdiocese of Louisville, she taught at St. Bartholomew School from 1960-1966 and at St. Brigid School from 1986-1989.

Sister Johnson leaves behind her sisters Alma Victoria Higdon and Mary Eveyleen Melton, as well as nieces, nephews, and members of her religious community.

Visitation to pay respects to Sister Johnson will be held on January 24 at Mount St. Joseph, starting at 4 p.m. This will be followed by a service at 6:30 p.m. The Funeral Mass will take place on January 25 at 10:30 a.m. at Mount St. Joseph.

Expressions of sympathy for Sister Johnson can be made by sending donations to the Ursuline Sisters of Mount St. Joseph at 8001 Cummings Road, Maple Mount, Ky., 42356.

Sister Johnson's passing is a loss felt by many, and her contributions to the Ursuline community and her dedication to education will be dearly remembered. As her sisters, Alma Victoria Higdon and Mary Eveyleen Melton, express their grief, they also share their gratitude for the support and love shown during this difficult time.

In the words of the Ursuline Sisters of Mount St. Joseph, "Sister Rose Karen Johnson was a shining example of faith and commitment. Her passion for teaching and her dedication to her religious life inspired all those who had the privilege of knowing her. We mourn her loss but celebrate her life and the impact she made on so many."

Sister Johnson's legacy will continue to live on through the lives she touched and the lasting impact she had on her community. She will be remembered as a devoted Ursuline Sister who dedicated her life to serving others and spreading love and compassion to all. May she rest in peace.
