On Oct. 11, 1970, the parish of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Anchorage, Alaska celebrated its 50th anniversary of the Inaugural Mass presided over by Archbishop Joseph Ryan, with Monsignor John Lunney and Father Daniel Crowley, the new pastor and his associate, concelebrating, according to a bulletin.
Through the decades, the parish has grown into a vibrant community of faith.
COVID-19 has not allowed parishioners to celebrate as planned, but in the Oct. 4 message from the pastor, Fr. Henry Godecki C.M., announced special commemoration held last weekend. Masses at 9 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. were livestreamed.
In the previous week’s bulletin, Fr. Godecki wrote, “We hope to have Archbishop Bellisario celebrate the 5:30 p.m. Mass on Saturday, Dec. 12, our parish patronal feast, which falls on a Saturday this year. Maybe by then we will be able to have a grander celebration with more people present and with a fiesta afterwards.”
The Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe is located at 3900 Wisconsin, in Anchorage. More information can be found on their website, olgakcocathedral.org
