Deacon Floyd Walter McCubbins of Kalispell, Montana, died on April 25, 2025, at the age of 74. He passed away while attending a Knight’s of Columbus state convention in Helena, Montana.
McCubbins was born on September 28, 1950, in Walla Walla, Washington. His family moved to Missoula, Montana in 1959 and later settled permanently in Kalispell. He graduated from Flathead High School in 1968 and from Flathead Valley Community College in 1971.
He married Connie Hundahl on October 7, 1972. The couple celebrated more than five decades of marriage.
McCubbins held various jobs throughout his life including over ten years with the Forest Service and nearly two decades at Stoltze Land and Lumber. He also co-owned the Moving Image Health and Fitness Center with his wife for about twenty years and ran several other businesses including a travel agency and Grizzly Bamboo Fly Rods. From 2012 until his death, he served as an ordained Deacon at St. Richards and most recently at Risen Christ Catholic Church.
His community involvement included serving as a volunteer firefighter, coaching youth baseball teams, lobbying for the timber industry, participating on Columbia Falls’ city-county planning board for more than ten years, helping organize local events such as Heritage Days and Night of Lights, and being recognized by the Society of American Foresters as Forester of the Year. In addition to these activities he assisted Pope Francis during the Papal Mass held in Philadelphia in 2015.
He is survived by his wife Connie; sons Patrick (Amy) with grandchildren Cameron (Kaileigh), Skyler (Nick), Christian; Bryan (Nicole) with grandchildren Austyn (Ana), Ashya; great-grandchildren Katalaya, Rosalyn, Evan, Kash; another great-grandchild expected in June; and sisters Kimberely Beck, Deana Lechner and Rahni Juelfs.
He was preceded in death by his parents Byron and Vonda McCubbins as well as his brother Charles McCubbins.
