Election Day in New York is set for Tuesday, November 4. Residents who wish to participate in the General Election must ensure their voter registration application is received by Saturday, October 25, which is also when early voting begins in the state.
New York City residents have the option to register online, in person, or by mail. Details about registration and checking registration status are available through the New York City Board of Elections.
St. John’s University has made voter registration forms accessible to its community at various locations across its Queens campus, including the Office of the Registrar, D’Angelo Center Campus Concierge, and University Center lobby.
To register to vote in New York State, individuals must be US citizens, at least 18 years old, and residents of the state and their specific locality for a minimum of 30 days before the election. People currently incarcerated for a felony or deemed mentally unfit by a court are not eligible to register. Voters must not claim voting rights elsewhere, which is especially relevant for college students living on campus.
Eligible voters can register through the New York State Board of Elections’ online portal, in person at county Boards of Elections or designated National Voter Registration Act sites like the Department of Motor Vehicles, or by mail. Updates to registration can be made using any of these methods as well.
Voters in New York State have multiple options for casting ballots, including in-person voting and early voting. Absentee and military or overseas voters need to follow specific deadlines set for each election cycle.
To promote civic engagement, St. John’s University organized a nonpartisan voter registration drive aligned with National Voter Registration Day on September 15, 2025. Additionally, the St. John’s University School of Law will function as an early voting site from October 25 through November 2.
