Bishop John Noonan led a blessing ceremony for the newly renovated sanctuary at Holy Family Parish in Orlando on September 27, 2025. The renovation included the removal of outdated structures and the addition of travertine stone behind the altar.

A new tabernacle featuring an image of the Sacred Heart was installed beneath the original stained glass window depicting the crucifixion. The tabernacle is backlit to highlight its significance. A partial wall was added at the front of the altar space, with steps at the center leading up to the altar.

Relics from St. Elizabeth Ann Seton and Blessed Stanley Rother were placed in a carved space within the altar table. Both saints were born in America; St. Elizabeth Ann Seton founded the first parochial school in the United States, while Blessed Stanley Rother was recognized as the first U.S.-born priest to be beatified and is considered a martyr.

Father Martin Nguyen stated his intention for including these relics: “witness” “to the Catholic faith and to foster Catholic education.”

The renovations were finished ahead of Holy Family Parish’s 50th anniversary celebration scheduled for October 12. The event will include a picnic that highlights the multicultural nature of the parish community. Construction on a new rectory is expected to be completed by the end of October.

The Diocese of Orlando, which oversees Holy Family Parish, was established in 1968 and includes 79 parishes, 11 missions, two basilicas, and 43 Catholic schools across several counties in Florida. The diocese is currently led by Bishop James Noonan. More information about the diocese can be found on its website.
